Customer Case Cresto Group

THE PINNACLE OF SAFETY

BACKGROUND AND CHALLENGE

Cresto Group, based in Halmstad with around thirty employees in Sweden and Norway, develops, manufactures, and sells personal fall protection equipment, rescue equipment, and related services such as training, installations, and annual inspections. The company offers a wide range of fall protection and rescue solutions for work at heights. The ambition is for users to feel safe and competent even in environments characterized by challenges and risks. The products are robust and designed for tough environments. Customers are located worldwide and span across various industries, such as construction, industry, energy, and telecommunications.

Cresto Group is a leader in the Nordics in high altitude safety and manufactures, among other things, safety harnesses, ropes, and rescue equipment. When the company sought a simple and reliable system to streamline the labeling and inspection of its products, they turned to Areff (a part of Seriline Group).

SOLUTION

"The law requires that each individual product must have a unique serial number so that it can be identified, its history tracked, and ensure that it undergoes the prescribed annual inspections," explains Jonny Magnusson, product manager at Cresto Group.

"Areff's solution involves sewing in or otherwise attaching an electronic tag to the equipment. With a reader, the tag can then be scanned, and the information is stored in a dedicated online database."

The system has several advantages. For instance, the risk of writing errors is completely eliminated.

"When everything was done with paper and pen, there was always a risk that someone would make a mistake in the documents, or that the labeling was worn and difficult to read," explains Jonny. "In both cases, it meant that the identity of the product became uncertain, and then it could no longer be used. But with electronic tags, a digit is never wrong, and the tags are always readable, which means greater reliability and far fewer discards."

RESULTS

A somewhat unexpected result of digitization and improved traceability is that stolen safety equipment has found its way back to its owners. The system has been operational since 2014, and no significant issues have arisen. Another crucial aspect of Cresto's specification was user-friendliness, Jonny continues: "When we started looking at different technical solutions, we soon realized it was a jungle. But with the help of Areff, we were able to develop a solution that is simple and reliable. No expert knowledge is required to manage the equipment, which both we and our customers appreciate," he concludes.

A special inspection kit with, among other things, readers and replacement tags also makes it easy to work with inspections in the field. Replacement tags are used to replace damaged tags and to label products that, for some reason, lack labeling. "This way, the products become easier to inspect, and we get more products that comply with the law," notes Jonny.
