Costumer Case - Borås City

SERIX IAM SOLVES ACCESS CONTROL AND BOOKING CHALLENGES FOR BORÅS CITY

BACKGROUND AND CHALLENGE

Borås is a city that is always evolving and has grand visions. Here, creativity, innovative design, street art, e-commerce, and world-leading research in textiles thrive. The city also offers magnificent nature, sports experiences, shops, and restaurants. Borås has an entrepreneurial spirit and residents who are proud of their city. It is a modern city that is constantly changing and growing.

Borås City is a major employer with over 12,000 employees. It's also worth mentioning that approximately 10% of Borås residents work for the municipality.

Borås City needed a solution for managing identities and access control systems, which had not functioned as desired in the past. They also planned to procure a booking system to be integrated with Actor Smartbook for booking public facilities.

SOLUTION

Seriline helped address both challenges by utilizing Serix IAM, an overarching system. The Serix IAM solution is now live and integrated with Actor Smartbook for booking public facilities, as well as managing access control systems for the entire Borås City. In the municipality's Active Directory, employees are automatically assigned access based on their role or cost center. Additional permissions can be manually added by authorized personnel. With the Serix platform, the municipality can easily manage and track assets such as keys and projectors loaned to staff.

"We save 10 minutes per person administered. Now that we have Serix IAM, we don't even need to think about where the passage is, everything happens automatically," says Caroline Eriksson, Security Coordinator, Borås City.

RESULTS

With Serix IAM, the municipality's employees can easily control which objects and premises should be available in Actor Smartbook and which permissions should be assigned in the access control system. Caroline Eriksson, Borås City's security coordinator, says that the municipality saves approximately 10 minutes per administered person by using Serix IAM. The platform also GDPR-secures the operation by automatically removing blocked user profiles and ensuring that only employees with active employment have access. As a next step, the municipality is considering a self-service solution to manage access cards, PIN codes, and permission requests. Another solution that interests Borås City is Seriline's Cidron readers, which can read QR codes in the access control system.

"Seriline's work with Borås City extends far back in time since we have had a good collaboration together. It's always fun to be part of the customer's development journey and to be able to develop and offer new solutions to problems that may arise for the customer along the way," says Johan Waldenström, Business Area Manager, Seriline.
